God is laughing, I hope :)

Today at Mass I had a thought, one that jumped into my mind and a smile came to my face. It made me hope that God has a sense of humor and is laughing with me and not telling me to get fireproof shoes.

This is what I thought while on my knees:

Being a priest is a pretty good gig, at least as far as Mass is concerned. The priest is the last one in the church, he is the first to leave. He doesn’t have to kneel and there is an open bar.

Below is an excerpt of Wave Rider that is one of my favorites. It made me laugh when I wrote it and made me hope God is laughing.

I d have an odd sense of humor, I hope you enjoy.

We started to walk the mile or so into the town on a seldom used dusty road. We walked along the road with the wind whisking the loose dirt disturbed by our feet towards the east, “So this God thing is a pretty nice gig?” I asked.

“You said I was God,” They said, “I didn’t.”

“Still it’s got to me the best gig anyway if your God or not,” I pursued, “I never got the whole deal with Sam and the belief that someone is watching over him. I mean if you get fucked up and die like Sam then people say it’s God’s will, that it’s part of some grand plan that we don’t understand. And if something good happens everyone thanks the hell out of God. It’s a no lose scenario, I like those odds. You can sure as hell bet if I screw up someone blames me and wants my ass in a sling.”

“So you are not a believer of the grand design?” They asked.

I laughed a deep belly laugh, “Here we are in the middle of endless dust and dirt and you want me to think about a grand design. When God made the plan for this place my guess is that this wasn’t it.”

“That much may be true, even God can’t predict the perversions that are in the heart of men. That much has always been certain,” They said softly.
